Reference notes

Each end-of-phase exam samples the whole phase rather than one lesson, and passes at seventy per cent where a lesson passes at sixty. Every attempt is recorded on the student record, so a failed attempt costs nothing but time — it is a diagnostic of which lessons still need work.

Phase 1 covers flight basics, aircraft parts, mechanic mathematics, matter and energy, air and lift, drawings, pre-flight discipline and shop safety. Phase 2 covers electricity and power generation, weight and balance, materials, hardware, tools and fluid lines, and flight-line servicing. Phase 3 covers structures, nondestructive testing, welding and finishing, airframe electrics, hydraulics and landing gear, fuel and fire systems, and engine ignition, fuel metering, lubrication and propellers. The final exam samples the whole syllabus including inspections, records, law and human factors.

Use the library references listed on this page to revise each topic, and treat the hangar field tasks as seriously as the questions — a signed-off task is what turns a scored lesson into competence. Where a question exposes a gap, return to the lesson rather than memorising the answer.

Passing the theory is not a licence. A real certificate requires an approved school, documented experience, and the authority’s own examinations.
